Another Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) primary elections' loser has quit to contest the upcoming general elections as an independent candidate.

Abbott Botipeng has shifted to Marulamantsi ward in Gaborone West South after losing to Oarabile Bafetanye in BDP primaries at Kgale ward in the same constituency. Botipeng has said some people in the constituency have lobbied him to stand as an independent candidate. He said he is better suited to represent the ward because he has a wealth of experience gained working for the Ministry of Local Government for 23 years.

He said he has looked at the BDP constitution and it does not state that a member has to resign from the party if he intends to contest the general elections as an independent candidate.
