Amend Outdated Botswana Constitution - BONELA

BONELA legal officer Uyapo Ndadi said this at a three-day HIV and AIDS workshop held in Francistown last week. Ndadi indicated that human rights in Botswana do not include, among others, the right to education, the right to health, the right to find a family and marry.
The workshop was designed to raise awareness of the laws that affect people living with HIV and the community officers in the various committees, associations and groups that deal with the matter. The workshop consisted of teachers, policemen, prison officers, nurses and volunteers who all did not know that the Constitution of Botswana did not recognise socio-economic and cultural rights. "There are no guarantees. What is happening now is just out of the goodwill of the government," he said.
