Allure of African nurses wane?

A recruitment agency has said that it is becoming harder for African nurses to be absorbed overseas. "We have cut the numbers of nurses because it is not easy for them," he said. He revealed that up to eight nurses make inquiries on a daily basis about working overseas. The agency owner said that they process the papers of three to four nurses going abroad every month.

He said the whole process takes about a year before a nurse can take up a foreign job. He said that after an adaptation course, an English test, and acceptance, his agency gives the nurses a pin number. Such nurses can contact recruitment agencies for employment.

"No one has failed getting a visa and all our clients are happy," he said.
He revealed that once given the requirements, some potential recruits may decide not come back to the agency. The motivating factor for going overseas, he believes is better pay, better education for the children, and better quality of life.
