*Field workers left in the dark

The long awaited AIDS survey which was supposed to have been rolled out on the 15th of this month is yet to begin.Mmegi has learnt that workers are in the dark about the cause of the delays. According to a source, management has not yet called a meeting to explain the delays. The source told this reporter to pass by Western where the field workers were idling around. The workers said they have not been given the green light to start their assigned duties. Some workers travelled from as far away as Mahalapye and Francistown and on arrival were told to collect their camping equipment and leave for their respective sites.

"They are now idling around and wondering whether to return to their station or not," said the source. The workers are reportedly supposed to be paid P129.50 per day.  The only progress made thus far is the pilot survey which was carried out this past weekend in Tlokweng. Yesterday a meeting held at Btv auditorium where management and the workers undertaking the survey were addressed on issues of overtime and allowances. The outcome of the meeting proved to be yet another blow for National Aids Coordinating Agency(NACA) as workers refused to go to the field without payment for night outs. It is also reported that NACA want to reduce the allowances. The initial agreed days were 46 in the field but they might be exceeded as some workers arrived earlier. Some workers stormed out of the meeting in a huff as their queries were not addressed.
