SELEBI-PHIKWE: Selebi-Phikwe Town Council has resolved to seek legal advice from the Attorney General's Chambers in a case where some councillors have cited irregularities in the election of deputy mayor last week.

Councillors were at loggerheads for the better half of Wednesday morning with those who queried irregularities remaining adamant that casting a vote by the newly elected mayor Godfrey Mbaiwa to break the tie between contestants for deputy mayor was unprocedural.

The mayor cast a deciding vote to endorse Maxwell Kelebetse who tied with Molefhe Molatlhegi in the race for deputy mayor. Detractors believe that a lot (toss) could have been used to break the tie. Apparently, the concerned councillors have written a letter to the Town Clerk Mompati Seleka to complain the casting vote was a violation of council regulations and therefore election of deputy mayor should be declared null and void.
