Africa to cooperate with China

BEIJING: African countries have promised full cooperation in ensuring that projects that China has identified as a priority for their assistance in the continent over the next three years are a success.

Addressing a joint ministerial press conference at the end of the two day Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) meeting in Beijing on Friday, South African Foreign Minister, Maite Nkoana- Mashabane said China's assistance will go a long way in promoting transnational and inter-regional integration of the continent. She said this is important for trade among African countries as well as the rest of the world.She thanked China for extending assistance to the continent without conditions.

Speaking at the same briefing, Egypt's Foreign Minister, Mohamed Amre, said Africa's relationship with China was a successful model of South-South cooperation where developing countries worked together to influence the world order.The Chinese Foreign Minister, Yang Jiechi said the just-ended conference consolidated mutual trust and respect between China and the African continent. He said his country was determined to strengthen strategic partnership with Africa, and that both parties will continue to explore new ways of deepening cooperation.Yang said in the next three years, China's focus in Africa will be on investing in agriculture and supporting integration of the continent across national boundaries as well as regionally. China will also focus on strengthening Africa's capacity to deal with conflict and issues of security. In this regard, he said, China will continue to respect Africa's conflict resolution processes.
