The general manager of Multichoice Botswana Billy Sekgororoane has denied recent reports that hackers decrypted and distributed their signal encryption coordinates on various social networking websites enabling Philibao users to gain free access to DSTV channels.

"The DSTV signal was not hacked because Philibao decoders cannot decrypt the DSTV signal. In the recent, a test broadcast was accidentally run unencrypted hence the free-to-air (FTA) decoders were able to receive the test broadcast feed," he clarified.

The unencrypted test broadcast was run in an open form and it was not a marketing strategy, he explained.Sekgororoane further told Mmegi that the test broadcast was later encrypted on the morning of Friday January 4, 2013, and the FTA decoders lost reception of the DSTV channels.
