The phrase “Newspaper of the Streets” has been used in a number of American movies referring to graffiti content that is displayed in various street corners especially by gang members as a way to mark their territories.

Locally the so-called gangsters and the youth have decided to adopt the vice of painting and spraying walls with their various monikers. One notable print found on the different walls around Gaborone is Tupac Shakur’s conceptualised term, ‘Thug Life’, statement and it can be found in different residential areas.

This ill-practice has tarnished and destroyed the image of street art, a form of art. The urban dictionary defines street art as a visual art created in public locations, usually unsanctioned artwork executed outside of the context of traditional art venues.
