Mmegi Staffer MOMPATI TLHANKANE recently embarked on a tour of Namibia’s Petrified Forest to review the heritage site, which has protected 280 million-year-old trunks that have shocked to the core

Situated about 50 kilometres west of Khorixas, the Petrified Forest was proclaimed a national monument on March 1, 1950.  The Petrified Forest is in an old river channel and was discovered by two farmers in the 1940s.

 The name Petrified Forest suggests otherwise that the place is a forest though it is actually a site that has accumulated gigantic fossilised tree trunks.  Therefore, the title is a misnomer as none of the trees turned into stone as there is no mystery, as one would think.
