Through her film expertise Botswana actress, Yoko-Ono Manowe, is planning on marketing the country on an international scale taking the national flag to cosmopolitan heights.

Manowe is famously known for being the first Motswana to go to Nollywood as she appeared in one of the Nigerian films, Finding Mercy that is currently on Africa Magic channel 152 on DStv.

“I have since formed Local4Global (L4G), interested in re-branding Botswana on the next level in terms of business products, services, people and places.  We give you an aura and feel through highly stylised and visually arresting product placement, video marketing and brand ambassadorship,” said the 25-year-old actress, who is currently in the country working on her projects. She stated that the marketing would be through the local film and television industry that remains heavily challenged, needing a super boost.  She said: “Research has proved that movie-making is the ultimate form of branding and tourism”. Having said so, she stated that L4G is working on a locally produced movie titled Lesedi La Rona that will be showcased on the global cinema.  The film is a tribute to the recently found Lesedi La Rona diamond.  “The world deserves to know we are a ‘Diamond City’.  The only successful way to do so is through a movie?  That is the super-objective behind the upcoming film project”.Manowe is working with Charity Keobokile who is Botswana’s cultural ambassador who has been teaching the actress a lot on the subject matter.  “I have since learnt from her that in the midst of modernity, there is still room to embed our traditional culture and so far so good. We have creatively weaved it in for optimum representation of Batswana to the cosmopolitan world”. However, she noted that she is aware of the challenges that are faced within the local film industry, as she wants to re-brand the country through a locally produced movie.
