One of Botswana Tourism Organisation’s (BTO) highly anticipated events in the calendar, Khawa Dune Challenge and Cultural festival returns for the fifth year from May 5-8 at Khawa village in the Kgalagadi District.

The event will be hosted by BTO in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture (MYSC) and Botswana Motor Sport (BMS). It will feature quad and motorbike challenges, fun camel rides, sand dunes monster trucks, and professional sky-dive demonstrations.

At a press briefing on Tuesday, the CEO of BTO Thabo Dithebe said an event like Khawa is meant to promote Botswana as a tourism destination. “We want to promote quality assurance, investments and product diversification,” he said. He indicated that Khawa Dune Challenge started small with just 2,000 spectators, but last year it managed to attract 6,000 people. “We hope to attract more people this year and the aim is to keep it exciting no wonder we have introduced activities like air balloon rides,” he said.
