Cultural tourist experience emerges as an essential part of the offer of tourism services and is considered a crucial factor for attraction.

Therefore, it is for this reason that an event that blends cultural experience with tourism dubbed Glam it up! Ka Setso is billed to take place this year. Scheduled to take place in Kasane at the Cresta Mowana African Village on February 24, Glam it up! Ka Setso is expected to celebrate and embrace all the local cultures.

The event organiser, Florance Kalaemang, explained that the event is aimed at offering tourists and patrons an ultimate tourist experience, while simultaneously allowing them to be immersed in a destination’s culture and heritage. “Glam it up! Ka Setso event promotes Batswana culture and lifestyle, to complement the wildlife experience and add a further dimension to the tourists,” Kalaemang told Arts&Culture.

She said the main objective of this event is to explore and demonstrate the economic value of Botswana’s heritage and cultural resources through responsible and sustainable tourism development and to connect through the Botswana indigenous cultural tourism events. “Cultural events are emerging local tourism activities that contribute to economic development and diversification.

There are few opportunities in Botswana where Botswana culture is celebrated. Most cultural events focus on the culture of specific Botswana ethnic groups. Glam it up! Ka Setso event celebrates cultures of all Botswana ethnic groups,” she explained. Furthermore, Kaelamang stated that this will be Botswana’s most elite cultural event as it convenes in one of the finest tourist attraction regions.

“The event will give an all-rounded experience, which will infuse indigenous food, culture and entertainment. The social opportunities will be world-class, inspiring for the newest and next cultural tourism destination,” she explained, adding that the event will also welcome the best chefs, allowing attendees to experience the sound, cuisine and staples of local culture.

Moreover, she stated that the event will also showcase different Batswana ethnic groups’ attire, music, food and dance. Kalaemang said patrons will be required to creatively dress up for the red carpet in traditional attire that represents any Botswana indigenous group to experience the night of glamour and culture. She also said patrons with VIP admission will have the opportunity to taste different types of food from different Batswana indigenous groups while those with standard tickets will get only one dish. Tickets for the event sell for P500 standard and P1,500 VIP.
