Wearing a dress made of neatly cut paper pieces with inspirational quotes, Tumelo Kgomotso’s smile looks brighter. Some can mistake her for an environment conservation activist but this beautiful woman is an artist who uses talent to inspire others, Arts and Culture correspondent NNASARETHA KGAMANYANE writes.

Kgomotso, who is also an art teacher at Mogoditshane Senior Secondary School, believes that art therapy encourages creativity and self-expression. She says it is also a vehicle for stress reduction, improves self-esteem, increases awareness and helps cure trauma.

This artist says she uses art as therapy. When she is down, Kgomotso says she pours down her emotions into art and feels better afterwards.
