Lesego Motsumi has become the first cabinet minister to fall in the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) primaries in a weekend when four MPs lost the nominations.

The Health Minister was beaten in her South East South constituency by Odirile Motlhale who got 2,065 votes. Motsumi polled 1,038 votes while Ishoo Abdulla got 362. Maun West MP Ronald Ridge will not be in the next Parliament after he was whitewashed at the nominations by Batawana paramount chief Tawana Moremi. Once a victim of the BDP's vetting exercise, Tawana made his come back by polling 1,394 votes while Ridge got 976. However, in Maun East, Frank Ramsden  stood his ground with 1 665 votes against  his challenger Claude Gabanakemo who got 416.

In Kgatleng West, legislator Rakwadi Modipane failed to resist the challenge of Gilbert Mangole. The MP got 1,089 votes as Mangole marched to victory with 1,786 votes. Initially it was reported that Modipane will make way for Mangole in Kgatleng West but the two applied to contest the primaries.

In Moshupa, the incumbent MP Maithoko Mooka lost to Mokgweetsi Masisi with a margin of four votes. Other contestants in the race were Steve Pheko, Kgomotso Mogami and Stephen Kganela.

Legislator Keletso Rakhudu narrowly escaped in Gaborone North after he got 618 votes to beat Olebeng Ngwanakwena who had 595.

Okavango MP, Vista Moruti walloped his challenger Mbahahauka Kambimba, a former administration officer at Selebi-Phikwe East constituency office by 2,032 votes to 204.

BDP secretary general and Minister of Education Jacob Nkate whom many thought would bite the dust, emerged victorious against Thato Kwerepe in the battle for Ngami constituency. Nkate got 2,641 votes while Kwerepe managed 2,410.

in their Molepolole backyards. Kwelagobe beat Shima Monageng in the battle for Molepolole South while his ally Matlhabaphiri, prevailed over Kabo Sebele.

In Kweneng East, incumbent MP Moeng Pheto is still the party's favourite after beating businessman and son of former cabinet minister Lesang Magang in a tightly contested race. The former cabinet minister polled 1,941 votes to Magang's 1,895.

In Kweneng South East, MP Mmoloki Raletobana won his rematch with his political foe Patrick Manthe buy garnering 2,026 votes to his opponent's 755.

Dr John Seakgosing will represent the BDP in the Kweneng South constituency. Seakgosing got 1,551 votes to beat Tshenolo Mabeo, David Lekgetho, Lesedi Mmusi and Marie Sola. The constituency become a BDP free-for-all after cabinet minister Gladys Kokorwe announced she is quitting politics.

In Barolong, cabinet minister, Kitso Mokaila had a walk in the park after scooping 2,503 votes to outwit his opponents Blom Lekoma, Judith Mabilo, Freddie Ramodise and Kennedy Mouwane. Mokaila's challengers fared badly as their combined votes could not even add up to 1,000.

Former cabinet minister and now specially elected councillor, Michael Tshipinare's dream of regaining his Ngwaketse South seat ended in disaster after another wallop at the hands of cabinet minister Peter Siele. It was a thorough humiliation as Tshipinare could only manage 328 votes to Siele's 3,006. Another contestant, Pelogang Namogang got 238 votes.

In Kgalagadi South, cabinet minister Neo Moroka got 1,974 votes to beat Moses Chimbombi who had 1,101 votes. Another cabinet minister, Johnnie Swartz had a field day by beating Masuzu Johns. The minister got 1,165 votes to Johns' 481.
