Sekoma by-election: Odds against BDP

Taking the figures for the last elections, it is clear that the odds are against the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP). Compounding the BDP woes is the coming on board of the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) into the UDC family. Although the BCP came third during the 2014 general elections in Sekoma, it has the numbers that can boost the UDC.

In 2004, 1,591 residents had registered but only 1,313 voted with BDP getting 553 votes and BNF 760 votes. The BNF increased its margin widely in 2009 as it was voted by 1,086 while BDP got 593. The number of people who had registered also increased from 1,591 to 2,067. There was also a slight increase in 2009 general elections, as 2,521 registered to vote and 2,285 voted. The ward had only 52 spoiled votes with BNF being voted by 1,086 and BDP 593.
