Police pilots set for training :: Mmegi Online

The Botswana Police Service will send about 17 officers for flying and related technical training to various schools around the world. In a move seen as the acceleration of the process towards the establishment of the flying arm of the Police Service, six police officers will pursue technical training at the National Aviation Academy of the United States of America (US) and four at South Africa's 43 Air School.

One pilot will pursue flying-instructor training at Starlite Aviation, while six officers will receive flying lessons at the same South African institution.

According to the information released by the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Board (PPADB) yesterday, the total cost of the training will be P13 million. Plans to set up the police air wing have been gaining momentum for the last year and a half. Last year, Minister of Defence and Security Phandu Skelemani, under which the Police Service falls, officially announced the initiative.
