Police pilots set for training

One pilot will pursue flying-instructor training at Starlite Aviation, while six officers will receive flying lessons at the same South African institution.
According to the information released by the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Board (PPADB) yesterday, the total cost of the training will be P13 million. Plans to set up the police air wing have been gaining momentum for the last year and a half. Last year, Minister of Defence and Security Phandu Skelemani, under which the Police Service falls, officially announced the initiative.
The rise in defilement and missing persons cases, particularly over the recent festive period, points not merely to a failure of policing, but to a profound and widespread societal crisis.
