Zimbabweans hope for better after elections

FRANCISTOWN: As Zimbabwe inches towards another general election, there are prospects and hope for a better life, which could see the citizens of that country beginning to thin out of the streets of Botswana.

The date of the elections has not yet been announced, but it is believed to be in 2012 or a year later. There is hope that after elections, normalcy will return to the former breadbasket of Southern Africa where mismanagement of the economy by the country's leaders is said to have caused dire poverty.

The Monitor interviewed some Zimbabweans at the entrance of Chinese shops in the city centre, where they seem to always mill about, either walking in or out or standing on the pavement haggling over this and that. At one of the shops on Haskins Street, young lads are lugging boxes of newly bought electronic appliances onto a truck.
