Zamtel sale haunts ex-Zambian cabinet minister

LUSAKA: Things are not looking pretty good for former education minister, Dora Siliya, and it seems only a matter of time before "something" drastic happens to the former minister and spokesperson for the former ruling Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD).

Her situation is not helped by the fact that she was the minister of communications and transport during the partial privatisation of the Zambia Telecommunications Company (Zamtel) when government sold 75 percent shares for US$257 million (P1.8 billion) to Lap Green Networks of Libya.

A commission appointed by President Michael Sata to probe the sale has just reported it to have been "fraudulent and illegal."  There have been calls for her arrest from interest groups following publication of some details from the inquiry report.
