The young man said he fell in love with Geology at the University of Botswana (UB) because of his cousin who was studying the course. "I then branched into Geology from BSC general," he said. He wants to be an exploration geologist for mineral resources in Botswana.

"I realised that there is a lot of potential in that field and a lot of work that needed to be done in that regard. There might be another Orapa mine that has not been found," he said. Selepeng said he has always wanted to be an academic but first his desire was to work before going for further studies. The BIUST advertisement looking for young Batswana eligible for the scholarship came and he changed his mind about venturing into the field first.   "When I read about BIUST and what they do, I found out that it will be an industry based research. I saw that as a platform that is flexible to allow me the best of both worlds - being an academic and hands on in the industry," Selepeng said.  He explained that he is using the late Professor Henry Kampunzo from DRC as his model.
