What role for African journalists?

Only two weeks ago, the world community of journalists celebrated the international press freedom day. TSHIRELETSO MOTLOGELWA took advantage of his visit to the AU to speak to African journalists about the state of the profession on the continent.

ADDIS ABABA: Dr Naison Ngoma of the South Africa-based Institute for Security Studies implored African journalists to dedicate themselves to the collective effort of improving the African continent.

Another speaker, Dr Abdel Haireche of the African Union's Department of Peacekeeping Operations also urged African journalists to "improve the state of the majority of our people". The speakers were addressing a group of journalists from southern and West Africa at African Union headquarters.
