WFP needs P790 million to feed Zim

So far, the organisation has received $190 million in food aid for its operations in Zimbabwe this year. Out of this, $109 million came from the United States.

WFP estimate that 5.1 million or 45 percent of the population in Zimbabwe would need assistance in early 2009. "The scale of the current crisis means that we still need additional resources and we need them urgently so that we can get enough food into
Zimbabwe. There are widespread reports of people eating wild foods and hungry families being forced to exchange their precious livestock for buckets of maize in a context of decreasing terms of trade," WFP spokesman Richard Lee told Mmegi on Tuesday.
