Treading on guzzlers' toes

I do not consume alcohol except through the Holy Sacrament in the Cathedral. I am a teetotaller if you like. I do not like guzzlers of alcohol and habitual drunkards, because they are irresponsible and a hazard to other people's lives.

I repeatedly pray for them, but since they seem not to add their voices; they remain the same. They like asking people to buy them their favourite intoxicating drinks and to be dropped at their respective destinations. They sometimes put our generosity to the test and leave some of us impecunious. In return we receive some malodorous smell, bragging and display of gluttonous behaviour that result in the speedy mutilation of their emunctories such as kidneys. The guzzlers are vexatious, rapscallion individuals that deserve no place in our society. Even Jean Kerr once opined that, "even though a number of people have tried; no one has yet found a way to drink for a living".

Having asserted the aforementioned, let me make it clear that, I do not mean to offer my support for the imposition of heavy levy on alcohol to reduce its consumption. There is no evidence to suggest that the high cost of alcohol will curtail its excessive consumption, reduce accidents and violence. It will be lackadaisical for anyone to buy this ill founded, ill conceived theory. On the other hand, there is evidence suggesting that some accidents occur as a result of economic hardships and the government is not interested in alleviating poverty. Anyway, some leaders are definitely 'out of touch'. That is why parents will not be allowed to enter their children's bedrooms. In the unrealistic world of some, neediest families that own only a hut and nothing else to show for years of Botswana's independence do not exist. I do not know, but surmise parents of such families will have to sleep in the open to allow their children privacy in the only family hut. If my mind prefers not to deceive me, some children have disappeared without trace under BDP misrule. Just imagine what will happen if more of them are left on their own during the night. What a nightmare!!! Let me go back to the main issue.
