MAUN: Pregnancy is a beautiful journey and the beginning of human life. However, for Barati* it was an extremely distressing path of unending fatigue, dehydration, heart palpitations as well as extremely swollen feet due to heatwaves. The pregnancy insomnia was on another level and nights were unbearably long and very sweaty, she recalled recently.

“The heat was just agonising. It led to a habit where I took very cold showers which goes against what medical people tell us,” said Barati.

Now holding a bouncing baby girl in her arms, she is grateful.
