The need for a united front

The dream of thousands of Batswana was shattered when it became clear that the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) will not be participating in the Umbrella.

It was and still is a serious blow to the project of a united opposition to oust the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP)
Political pundits and members of the Umbrella for Democratic Change may say it is too late for the BCP to unite with other opposition parties. Some say this is due to emotions running high because of the exchange of harsh words between the parties. Some may argue that BCP is a non-entity that is not needed in opposition unity efforts. Others will say anything because they are motivated by selfish interests. Some will identify BCP as an enemy to opposition and raise some very salient points. But the bottom line is that split voting among opposition has continuously given the BDP the edge to win elections. The divide and rule method.

My position is liberal. I have not given up. Yes I am very hurt with how the whole umbrella negotiations were handled. We were right at the end with only five constituencies left to finalise. I am particularly hurt by BCP for having given up so quickly.
