The festive season: a time to get married

FRANCISTOWN: Just in front of Ntshe House in Francistown, it is not an uncommon sight to see old women in shawls ululating after the District Commissioner has declared their children man and wife.

The ceremony is then taken home where celebrations begin.  This has become a common trend during the festive season.

Public relations officer in the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs, Usisinaqa Lekgoko, said that during the festive season many people get married.  She said from January 2009 to December the same year they recorded 4 523 civil marriages of which 1 301 were recorded in November and December, 345 and 956 respectively.
