Somerset Extension grapples with teenage pregnancies

FRANCISTOWN: Somerset Extension is a sprawling low-income township located on the southeastern side of the city's Central Business District (CBD).

On the western side of this area, just next to the Thapama traffic circle, there are some modern buildings for the Bank of Botswana (BoB), the National Development Bank (NDB), the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC), Water Utilities Corporation (WUC), Botswana Life Insurance (BLI), and many others.

Another notable structure that is in the vicinity is Nzano Shopping Centre, which houses top shops like Game, Spar, Pep, Wimpy and others. Also closer to Somerset Extension are the High Court, University of Botswana (UB), Institute of Health Sciences (IHS) and Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital. Being so close to the mall, one would expect Somerset Extension to be more advanced. But, alas, this is one of the poorest shanty locations in the country's second city. Most houses here are made of mud, making the place dreary.
