Outside of the Box

Botswana, our lovely and dear Botswana, it seems to me is a country of contradictions; one of opposites which I find very hard to understand at times.

Take for example the fact that we live in a country that professes its allegiance to the following of traditions. In most cases I suppose people do, but not all the time nor as rigorously as proclaimed. In this 21st century, due to the fast pace life and countries' borders being almost irrelevant thanks to technology; it can come as no surprise that our traditions may be subject to watering down. I won't dwell on the whole tradition topic as I am one of the least qualified people in the country who can comment on tradition.

It is recorded in the reason d'tre and motivation for the Alcohol Levy and as a result thereof the fund, that discussions were held and that 'the people' decided it was a good way to curb this social ill. The question I beg to pose is: are these not the same 'people' drinking millions and millions of Pula into the fund?
