At a time of enormous uncertainty; a time of unprecedented instability in the world's financial institutions, it takes extraordinary vision to see beyond the current economic horizon and invest with conviction and confidence.It is a statement of intent that the rest of the diamond industry would do well to listen to.Having toured the campus and seen for myself, it is clear that the innovative architecture and design of the facilities is meant to reflect this vision of, and optimism for the future. A feat of engineering that does much to help accelerate the development of the downstream sector of Botswana's diamond industry.
Innovation in the design of our product and the way we do business are essential elements for continued prosperity in an increasingly complex and competitive world. It takes skill and expertise that cut across disciplines to achieve this. Entrepreneurs, artists, engineers and scientists are amongst the occupations and skills required to keep this unique industry prosperous and relevant in the 21st Century. This campus and the people that work in it are a glowing example of this. Honourable Minister, may I also take this opportunity to congratulate you and your colleagues in Government for the bold leadership you have shown in providing the essential political support and encouragement required for business to make such bold investments. Not for the first time, Botswana is leading the way in Africa.Finally, I would like to wish you all every success. When the economic recovery eventually arrives - and it will - this venture will surely be one of the very first to benefit from its effects and secure its stakeholders an exciting and prosperous future.
