Not easy stepping into a stepfamily

While it is never going to be easy for anyone to adjust to a stepfamily, parents could make the less challenging by leaving matters of disipline to the natural parent;and children by refraining from commenting negatively about the new ogre or ogress behind their back, writes Barati Mathambo

FRANCISTOWN: Growing up in a stepfamily is never easy for anyone, especially children. For a long time, this has been an issue that most parents in Botswana have neglected, focusing only on themselves and their new partners with little regard for their children's emotions.

Most children go through the trauma of family break-ups and may exhibit odd behaviour, including anger, resentment, jealousy, withdrawal symptoms, depression or simply disrespect for the stepparent.
