No festivities for ambulance drivers

FRANCISTOWN: Christmas and New Year's holidays should be the time of year that most people look forward to. A time to relax and unwind at home with family and friends.

But for ambulance drivers, spending quality time with relatives during the festive season remains an impracticable wish. To them this is the most horrendous and strenuous time of the year.

Every year at Christmas and New Year vacations, road accidents and fatalities take a heavy toll as most people would be travelling to different destinations for Christmas and New Year. During this time of the year, ambulance drivers are compelled to work irregular hours. Driving vehicles that carry sick people and accident victims to hospitals, ambulance drivers are often the first members of the medical team to reach a person in need of medical attention. Many of their calls involve matters of life and death.
