Neighbourliness still practised

FRANCISTOWN: In the suburb of Somerset Extension, good neighbourliness is still practiced, long after it has become a thing of the past for many people in this country.

At Somerset Extension, Shadrack Kedirileng can pop next door unceremoniously or send a thumb-sucking child in soiled clothes to ask for sugar from his neighbour, Modiri Kgathanong.

He would have woken up in the morning to a realisation that he did not have the tea sweetening substance. Like smoking, tea is addictive to some people like Shadrack, and they never start the day without a cup.After pondering what to do, his neighbour, Kgathanong would have come to mind, especially as he would have previously given him a bowl full of bupi ja paletshe (maize meal).  At the time, mid-month when groceries were low, Kgathanong had walked over to Shadrack's place to get enough maize meal to thicken his porridge plus a little extra for another day.
