Mmegi F/town office turns five

FRANCISTOWN: When the Dikgang Publishing Company (DPC)-publishers of both Mmegi and Monitor titles changed the frequency of the publications to daily-pessimists doubted the sustainability of the project.

I remember some people signalling a 'warning' that it was only a matter of time before we reverted to the old order of a weekly, citing the market forces. The main issue being that the printing costs and generally the generation of advertising business would frustrate DPC's 'ambitious dream.' For starters, advertising is the backbone of every newspaper establishment. Some people even wondered whether it was going to be possible to buy a paper daily when weekly publications were generating a lot of returns already.

Some Mmegi readers were also worried about the price of the newspaper indicating that the mid week editions in particular were not 'worth' their price at 16 pages, oblivious of what the future held for them.
