Mineral exploration 'depletes' land (MINING FEATURE)

The hunt for minerals has grown so intensive that the Department of Geological Surveys is left with no ground to offer for now.

The acting director of geological surveys, Tiyapo Ngwisanyi, confirms that "we have lots of applications, but there is no ground available. All the ground is now covered".

On what could be spurring the intensified interest in the mining sector, Ngwisanyi acknowledged that, indeed, "exploration activities are on the increase for various mineral commodities. The continuing boom in the minerals industry, fuelled mainly by growth in places like China and India, has prompted a tremendous increase in exploration expenditure.
