Mentally unstable man to face criminal charges

FRANCISTOWN: The magistrate court has ruled that a mentally unstable man must face criminal charges after he was accused of harrassing family members as well as stealing their properties.

When the accused Gaseitsiwe Zaba appeared for mention yesterday, State prosecutor Gasemotho Pitlagano applied before the magistrate for him to be tried, though he was of unsound mind at the time of offence.

He said since the last mention he found out that the law requires the accused to be tried before the court. "If it appears to the court before which such person is tried that he was insane as aforesaid at the time of the offence, the court shall return a special finding to the effect that the accused was guilty of the act, but insane as aforesaid when he did the act," said Pitlagano.
