Maun family lives in fear of mysterious fires

MAUN: Members of a family in Botshabelo Ward in Maun are living in fear because of mysterious fires that started to haunt them three months ago. They fear they will lose their property and lives because of the fires.

It is said the fires have already burned four houses in one yard. Kushamona Ndhao (36), a mother of six who lives with her husband Nduhe Sanjira said when the fire burnt one house in the compound, they thought it was normal. But when it burnt other houses, they realised that it is not an ordinary fire because it seems to be starting by itself. She said they then moved out to stay with their grandmother at her home, but the fires continued after their return, ceasing only for a day and continuing the following day.

Ndhao said the fire just start from nowhere, usually on clothes before catching other items in the house. The mysterious fires are said to start in the morning and later in the evening. Ndhao told Mmegi that the fire nearly burnt her and her one-year old son when they were sleeping last month. "These days it is getting more dangerous because the fires start late at night when we are fast asleep, re beile fela mo Modimong," she said.
