Maribe: a seasoned career diplomat

Mmegi Staffer, EPHRAIM KEORENG chats with Botswana's high commissioner designate to Nigeria Clifford Maribe about diplomacy, and his 19 years' service in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation

Mmegi: What was your first job after graduation?

CM: I was employed in 1990 in this ministry (of foreign affairs and international cooperation) as a foreign affairs officer responsible for the Asia/Africa desk.  I served as liaison officer for Africa and Asia countries that had diplomatic relations with Botswana. I also made a follow-up and reported on significant economic and political developments in the two regions (Africa and Asia). As a desk officer my work also entailed drafting speeches and providing protocol services for visiting dignitaries.
