"Moshimane yoo o a tsenwa, ga ke ye gope! O mphithela ha (That boy is crazy, I am not going anywhere! He found me here)," declares Gabototiwe Mothetho.

He has been occupying Letsweletse Mmope's land illegally since 1991. When he occupied the land, it was the state's. A year later, it became freehold land under Mmope's ownership.

The 29 hectare land is sandwiched between the Gaborone Dam and the old sewerage pond. Although he admits that the land in question - Plot 6774 - is owned by Mmope, he does not take kindly to the former's intention to evict him. Mothetho is a brick manufacturer and has been at it for decades. He does not buy into Mmope's plan to have them moved to the sewerage pond to do gardening.
