In memory of Sakarea, the wealthy WWII veteran

Before centenarian, Sakarea Tumagole, was laid to rest in his home village of Matolwane recently, the first thing his surviving children wanted to help him do was bid farewell to his immense wealth of cattle.

And so they took his casket to be licked by some of his best cattle before proceeding to lay him down alongside his ancestors. Tumagole's funeral programme was decorated with photographs of some of the best breeds from his moraka. One of his sons, Moleti, says the World War II veteran - who was 101 years old when he died - was fastidious when it came to cattle breeding and decidedly partial to unadulterated indigenous stock.

The centenarian was known in the village only as Sakarea despite the fact that he was married and blessed with nine sons and daughters. To the one who answered to it, the name was loaded with meaning that revolved around of all things good in life and of great achievements.
