Empty BDC Factory Shells Worry Council

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Selebi-Phikwe Town Council (SPTC) is worried by empty Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) factory shells, which have developed into white elephants.

Addressing a press conference last week, Mayor Benjamin Bagayi said the council has asked BDC chiefs to come and address them on the issue. He noted that they have also urged BDC to consider subdividing the factory shells so small-scale business people could occupy them because most of the traders do not possess the necessary financial wherewithal and capacity to fully utilise them.

He said the council has also suggested to BDC that they go into partnership on other projects. The town has not been very effective in luring investors due to its perceived low economic performance.
