Doctors, patients and healers ponder HIV

It all started on a Tuesday. My first task of the day was: 'Interviews on Traditional Medicine versus HIV &AIDS- How far?' Deadline, 1600 hrs. The objective was to establish how far traditional medicine has gone in tackling HIV and AIDS.

It took me 20 minutes to reach Dimpho Seteng's place. As early as 0715 hrs, she was already swallowing her mixture of powdered herb and lukewarm water.
She welcomed me with a smile, lowering her cup to her chin, her upper lip and lower teeth covered with crushed pieces of the herb.

 
Recollecting what we discussed two days previously, the 23-year-old said: "I tested positive in 2003 after my friend advised me to. I was reluctant at first but she showed me her results".
