Dead and unmourned khama says of opposition's umbrella talks

President Ian Khama has described attempts by opposition parties to establish a coalition to unseat the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) as "stillborn".

Addressing yet another BDP semi-centennial gathering at Maharaja Conference Centre on Saturday, Khama said the so-called umbrella talks were seemingly collapsing on their own emptiness and demerits.

"We have learnt of the formation of Umbrella Number Two which also could not open inspite of its enthusiastic midwives and sponsors," he told the meeting of the National Council of the BDP.  "Let it be recalled that the idea of the Umbrella was borne out of misguided and opportunistic tendencies of seeking to exploit public service employees during the strike last year."
