Culture ministry cash-strapped

The Minister for Youth, Sport and Culture, Gladys Kokorwe on Tuesday told Parliament she is struggling to get a new department rolling because there are no funds.

The minister has asked for P10,974,140 for the newly established Department of Arts and Culture, but she says the amount is not enough for the establishment of a fully fledged department.

Kokorwe says 20 posts, including the posts of director, deputy director and support staff were approved, but with no financial provision. She said the provision for the posts is estimated at P1,671,564.
