Copper theft increases as police arrest suspects

In what appears to be a rise in copper cables theft, police say they have arrested 10 suspects for possession of stolen copper cables in six separate incidents, from April 10-17th.

In a report to the media, the police say they arrested two men, aged 39 and 46, in Phakalane for possession of copper cables they failed to account for. Two other men, aged 29 and 33, were arrested in Old Naledi last Thursday, after being found in possession of copper cables.

In Ramotswa, three suspects were arrested after they were caught selling copper cables, suspected to have been stolen from the scrap yard of a company they work -from Ramotswa was also arrested for possession of copper cables he could not account for. In other cases, three people were arrested within the same week for murder, while 39 cases of armed robbery involving cash totalling over P65,000 was reported.  Four people were arrested for rape, while a total of 24 cases were reported to the police. Meanwhile, road accidents have also continued to claim lives.  Police report that 125 people have, since January to date, died on the roads. The number of fatalities has increased by 18 compared to those who lost their lives during the same period last year.
