Domingo was speaking during a media briefing at the 13th edition of the festival last weekend. Dubbed "Africa's Grandest Gathering" the festival had been a very high attendance since it's conception.

Despite the large numbers that descend on Cape Town during the festival, numbers of dissident purists have been questioning whether the festival is really a 'jazz festival'. Jazz lovers have been questioning how artists like Mos Def who came in 2009, Bilal, TKZee who performed in 2010, Liquid Deep in 2011 and Lauryn Hill, Hip Hop Pantsula, Zakes Bantwini, Black Coffee who came in 2012 could make it into a 'jazz' line-up.
