I want to say a very special thank you to you for being among the first to write to me when the news broke of our national tragedy last month. In February, the worst bushfires in our history devastated huge swathes of our southern state of Victoria, and we lost more than 200 lives. In Botswana, bushfire is a familiar danger. You know its ferocity and,the destruction it wreaks in lives and livelihoods.
I was so touched to receive your message of sympathy for us, and I let the people of Australia know that our friends overseas were with us in our sorrow.
It underscores the indispensable role women play in our society, particularly in building strong households and nurturing families.
