The unexpected outcome of last month’s referendum for Britain to leave the European Union (EU), the abrupt resignation of former British Prime Minister, David Cameron, as well as the establishment of a new government all happened swiftly without catching a breath. The EU Ambassador to SADC, Alexander Baum*, explains to Mmegi Staffer, BAME PIET, what the Brexit means and why it is too early to press any panic buttons

It has been a month since the British voted on a referendum to exit the EU, a bloc that has been in existence since the early 1970s, established just 25 years after the end of World War II. The debate about Britain exiting the EU has dominated the country’s internal politics for half a decade.

The outcome was not what the majority of observers had expected, and the evidence of that was all over the post referendum atmosphere.

A promising step for public schools, but...

For too long, the state of many public schools has been a source of shame. We have all seen the pictures and heard the stories of broken windows, unreliable water and electricity, topped by classrooms that are not fit for proper learning. The establishment of the Education Infrastructure and Management Company Ltd (EIMC) signals that authorities are finally ready to take this problem seriously. We must commend the government for this initiative....
