Botswana - US partnership in health gets stronger

As I arrived in Botswana five months ago, the US Mission was in a whirlwind of activity preparing for the visit by First Lady Michelle Obama, who flew in just a few days later.

The outpouring of warmth and support I witnessed from the people and the Government of Botswana during the First Lady's brief stay made a tremendous and lasting impression on me. It also clearly demonstrated something I already knew - the Botswana-United States relationship is close and strong, and it is poised to grow further.

While she was here, Obama focused on the future, stressing the essential role that youth play in the country's development. She also made it clear that the US is committed to standing with Botswana to ensure that future is bright.
