Bazezuru women are identified by their long, white dresses as they move about selling their wares, which can be anything such as mangoes, nuts and maize. The men on the other hand are identified by their long goaty beards.Bazezuru men specialise in running taxis, and doing carpentry, among other things.
Although Ruth Chisiyanwa (54) would not admit that the marriages are arranged, she nevertheless says, "When a young man develops interest in a girl, the boy tells his own parents who then approach the girl's family on behalf of their son. Our religion forbids any dating between the would-be couple before marriage."
