Botswana's fourth president
It was on April 1, 2008 that Ian Khama became the fourth President of Botswana after Festus Mogae. Khama also became the first coloured president in the South African Development Community (SADC) and the second leader with the first name Ian in this region, after Rhodesia's Smith.
In the older democracy of the United States, some families have provided two presidents, the way it happened with Khama, son of Botswana's first President Sir Seretse Khama.
