African media must combat Western stereotypes - Kedikilwe

Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Ponatshego Kedikilwe said the media fraternity in Africa should give a counter narrative to the stereotypic imaging of Africa, which is pre-eminent in the Western media.

Officiating at the 5th English Department International Conference at the University of Botswana early this week, he said misinformation about Africa has become a growth industry in the West.

Kedikilwe said it is time Africa developed its own strong modes of media to remove the proliferating stereotypes.
